and I think there are very very few people who are actually comfortable with their own thoughts and feelings, most people you can visibly observe lying to themselves on a daily basis...
Honestly, I cannot say what happens to people who take insane doses... but I have definitely heard of people claiming to have "flashbacks" and things like that. I mean even the term "trip" confuses me, because the experience just feels so natural, and I have always remained completely lucid and in total control at every point. Even moreso than I would on mushrooms and infinitely moreso than on alcohol. Having flashbacks to the times I've been on acid would simply be me remembering some of the best days in my life.
I agree on the second part though, and I believe that's why psychedelics in general have earned themselves such a bad name. They can force you to think about things you've been trying to avoid... It really doesn't surprise me that most people would freak out and try to abort the experience rather than just face the things that trouble them.
