Versus XIII didn't start "real" development until a few years ago, but it had been put on the backburner for other games (FFXIII, FFXIII-2, Type-0), so it's only now, heading into 2012, that it'll be Square Enix's "headliner." It's a shame the best looking of the FFXIII games has taken so long, but I'm willing to cut them some slack considering how much more ambitious (and appealing) it is over its predecessors.
