The PS1 had great jrpgs, fighting, racing, and some adventure games. The N64 covered everything the PS1 didnt have extremely well.
With the exception of JRPGs, this is also true of the PS3 / 360. The problem is you have different tastes. If you think MGS4 is the highlight if the gen I can understand how you'd feel that way. That would definitely be bad news if that was this best this gen could offer.
