It's possible, but I think developers had to make use of the feature, which has made it less widespread than it could be. They've put more thought into PS3 connectivity with Vita over the PSP, at any rate. Things like crossplatform online play between games on both systems great - Wipeout HD and Wipeout 2048, as an example.
