don't quite see why not. there was a proper name for a thing, the thing got a slightly different name that the west adopted. sure it isn't a numerical analogy, but it is close enough.
Yamcha and Krillin have always been called "Yamcha" and "Krillin" in the west though; Square-Enix officially refers to them as FFIV and FFVI in the west now, their names are changed back here, they've been re-released under those names multiple times.
