Saving more often sounds like a horrible idea. I'm not scared of losing my progress since the last point. I'm scared of corrupted files.
One day my MGS3 data got corrupted. No idea how, I had a few save files but I lost like 6 hours. So I replay. Then I come back again the next day and AGAIN that new file was corrupted. It turns out it was that specific slot was corrupted no matter what I did. I saved to the slot after and had no problems.
