I'm just going to lay it out here - XIII doesn't believe in science. He says that sufficient technology would seem to us magical, and he chooses to believe that everything is magic, and not the work of thousands of years of human innovation, creativity, and intelligence. This stubbornness is what I believe most of us first think of when we think about XIII. He doesn't waver on his opinions, and will, oftentimes, spew what seems like random gibberish in response to well thought-out arguments against his beliefs. It doesn't matter what he says so much as it matters that he says anything at all, he seems to think, and he executes this system flawlessly. When confronted with a proof that 0.999~ = 1 he started carrying zeroes and dividing by things, eventually growing frustrated before he grunted and hobbled off in search of a magical pendulum. Will he ever find his pendulum? No, no he won't. But he'll think he did, and isn't that all that matters?
