Even if SMRPG wasn't technically a Square game as well, I'd argue that it has more overlap with CT than it does with Melee--SNES RPGs and all.
Since when do people think of SMRPG as a Square game first? It has Mario in the game. The only overlap is SNES, and there have been examples of SNES duels not being SFF affected.
