there's a couple games all around for the main systems to get some movement going. but the standard "this is the must-buy item!" is pretty much down to just the 3DS now due to the drop in price and games to come out.

You don't think that the PS2/PS3 comparison vs DS/3DS makes it look bad?

no. PS3 was overpriced on top of being overpriced at $600 and it only started taking off once they dropped it to $400 with a good game from a major series finally on it (instead of just Resistance and... what else did it have?), along with an immediate future that looked solid. the PS3 also had competition in the form of the 360 coming out ahead of it AND cheaper offering the same games and the Wii running a peripheal with numbers close to the PS3.

the 3DS cut its being overpriced to a point that they know sells and is reasonable (the same price they were selling the XL at), already has what the PS3 took 2 years to make in terms of a library, and has an immediate future that looks killer good. with no other current systems having those games, and no real competition in that part of the market, as it enters the holiday season with big names.

...sorry, it really doesn't work for a comparison. PS3 was WAY overpriced, took more time to start up, had actual competition, and took more time to get traction going. none of those problems exist now (or a week from now if you wanna be picky). this is in addition to them generating some buzz that if you get one now you can get some extra perks for it with the 20 games, which probably drove sales up already.
