The series follows inverse Star Trek film logic in terms of game quality (which is to say, the odd numbered ones are the good ones, as opposed to Star Trek where it's even). Especially if we count Peace Walker as MGS5.
MGS3 is one of the best games ever made. Enjoy.
If you count PW as MGS5, which by the way it's not but if you do, then don't you have to count PO as MGS4 and MGS4 becomes MGS5?
Kojima's literally said Peace Walker is MGS5 'in his heart', so the fans tend to roll with that. That said, since it sounds at least for now like there's a literal 'MGS5' in development, that's going to end superseding even Kojima-speak eventually.
