The walls of text in Hivebent were pretty jarring not because I don't like to read or anything silly like that (this is coming from someone who has read War and Peace, for instance) but because it was so different and so much more than what came immediately before. It was like Hussie massively changed the way the story was told. That took some getting used to. I enjoyed it, though, for the characters. That was also where we started getting some really nicely complex characterisation and I like that.
