Alright, enough about Owl. The other characters have their bright spots as well. Winnie the Pooh has always been my favorite character from the Hundred Acre Woods, and he’s still incredibly charming in this film. His obsession with honey is pretty much his only defining goal during the film, but it’s still funny watching him struggle to get some. I loved the part at the end where the film tried to imply that Christopher Robin was going to give Pooh the honey pot only to give it to the balloon instead. Top tier trolling right there, Christopher Robin. Eventually Pooh just snaps and begins to replace every word with honey. Funny stuff. I wish there were more scenes with Tigger in them, but he does a good job with what time he has. I enjoyed the moments Piglet had to shine, especially when he was the only one of the characters not trapped in the hole. Piglet is hilariously useless at getting his friends out of the hole: first getting a flower, than getting a huge book (satisfying Rabbit’s demand of something long), and then he cuts the rope into smaller pieces so they can all get out with their individual pieces. I also love the dynamic between him and Pooh, as Pooh is pretty much able to take advantage of Piglet nonstop and Piglet just goes along with it smiling. Unfortunately there has to be a “worst” character here, and I’ve got to pick Rabbit only because I feel like he deviated the most from his original character. He was a little too silly at times and it didn’t really seem like the Rabbit I knew and loved.

In terms of comparing the film to the original, the songs aren’t quite up to snuff. While I do love Zooey Deschanel and really enjoy her rendition of the intro song, it just doesn’t compare to the original. Her voice does match the feeling of the Hundred Acre Woods though, so it’s not a bad fit by any means. I mentioned it briefly above, but the song introducing the Backson is my favorite of the film. It contains the best animation in the film, mixing excitement, creativity and comedy into one song. The rest of the songs aren’t as memorable as the ones in the original, but they’re still decent. I think the way Zooey sings them tends to make them fall more to the background than the way the songs from the original were presented.

Alright, I have to stop now. I could write about these characters for days and I still have the original film to write up. My only real complaint is that the film is too short, but what we get is a lot of fun. This film is funny. This film is charming. This film is a great sequel. Go see it.

Also this movie makes honey look really tasty.

Next Up: This film’s title is the same as the name of its main character.
