3D fighting game stages sometimes actually do have gameplay differences. not 100% sure on tekken, but I know VF5 has stages with ringouts, stages with no ringouts, stages that can change from one to the other between rounds, large open stages, narrow long stages, etc.
they're a much bigger deal in 3D fighters than in 2D ones.
