What an absurd exaggeration. The show was still pulling in ~8 million viewers and more-than-stable 18-49 hits in its sixth season.
Anyway, as someone who didn't like it enough to keep going past the first season I can certainly agree upon watching this video that this was an exceptionally silly plot device they had going on here.
