U-four-ia: The Saga (NES)
Basically is a real good metroid-type open world adventure game. No shooting, instead it's about platforming and throwing enemies. Get more playable characters with their own unique stuff too.

Vice: Project Doom (NES)
More known here than usual, but it's like an NES Ninja Gaiden game but better. Spyhunter-esque car and rail shooter sequences here and there, but most of it's sidescrolling action. Can freely switch between using a blade, gun, and grenades, and the ammo's plentiful and regenerates if you completely run out. Has Ninja Gaiden style cutscenes, except the main character is a total badass who spits out one liners and stuff while putting on shades and walking away from explosions.

Ranger X (Genesis)
Sidescrolling action robot game. Tries out a lot of ideas, most based around how your robot's solar powered and ways the environment can get in the way of that. Different weapons, really ridiculous graphics for the system and a lot of detail at that (the multi-angle, multi-layered parallax is still ridiculous. Blast processing, man)
