Just ask a question about something they like on their profile and tease what your reply would be to the same question so they want to know more. Like if they like travel, "What has been your favorite country to visit? I had a great European cruise last year." Note I did not list the countries.

Every single message back and forth make sure you ask a question. It will keep them talking.

5 or 6 messages each is enough to ask them out. Don't drag it out! They will move on.

I would always say, "It has been great chatting, but let's keep the conversation going in person. Are you available after work next week for a drink or something? I am open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday." Worked every single time.
