As far as attacking Russia goes, Hitler basically picked the best possible time to do it. Not only was the weather as warm as it was ever going to get, basically all of Stalin's troops were over on the east fighting against the Japanese. The western front was mostly undefended.

You can argue that it was stupid to attack Russia at all but it's not because of the timing.

The border conflicts between the Soviets and the Japanese had more or less resolved themselves by 1939, and the countries had signed a non-aggression pact in April of 1941. By the time of Barbarossa, the Soviets had about 20 divisions in the Far East, compared to the more than 200 that were facing Germany.
