Regardless of when it was conceived, the show is now canonically stuck in a loop, as Farnsworth specifically says that they won't retain their memories and thus won't know what ends up happening with the Time Button. There would be no reason for him not to go ahead and invent it, or for the events to happen any differently, so they'll end up right back in the exact spot they are in the last episode. every time through the loop, (full series spoilers) ~~the entire universe dies and gets reborn, with minor changes. it's not inconceivable that those changes aren't the same every time. what with free will and all.~~ --- Boom!
