As in, no quest markers, no GPS position for your character's current location... just a literal top-down topographical map of the region. The kind a character might bring with them if they were actually venturing into a new land. See something cool? Orient yourself relative to a landmark on the map and then make your trek from there. I think a Hollow Knight style map would be right at home in the Souls series.
