"For the first time in Norway, a man has been convicted of inciting a trans woman. - "I look at this as hate rhetoric", the woman says to NRK.

She wants to remain anonymous, but stands firm in the choice she made to report the man she quarreled with on Facebook on March 24 this year.

This is a signal to people that this is not okay, she says to NRK

The 52-year-old man from the Bergen area wrote a number of derogatory comments about her gender identity, despite the fact that he knew she had changed gender.

The woman, who lives in a city other than the man, is happy that the police and the prosecution took up the case when she reported it.

"I was positively surprised that the police took hold of this", she says.

This is probably the first verdict in Norway after the Penal Code was tightened in December 2020.

The new letter in section 85 states that it is not permitted to make discriminatory or hateful statements on the basis of gender identity or gender expression."

"They sentenced the man to prison on conditions for 21 days and a fine of 15,000 kroner (~$1,600). The man must also pay the court 3,000 kroner (~$300) in legal costs."
