I don't usually use ice if it's a really good scotch because I don't want to water it down. The reason for adding just a tiny bit of water is that scotch gets an oily film on top. Just a single drop or 2 can break up that film and cause more aroma to rise up. And a lot of what you think is your sense of taste is actually your sense of smell. So it actually has a stronger taste from just a tiny bit of water.
At the bar they will often bring you a little glass of water with a tiny straw to suck up some water and drip it in
Yeah. I usually dont have good quality water on hand if Im drinking scotch though lol.
