I think the big issue with Russia looming over Eastern Europe is that the U.S. is expected to step in while neighboring Western European countries twiddle their thumbs. Compare to Taiwan, where that would immediately flip a lightswitch that the world has been expecting for more than a half century.

The United States has already stated their support for Ukraine's sovereignty, Washington is prepared to place sanctions on Russia if they invade Ukraine. Invasion of Ukraine is described as 'biggest crisis in post-Cold War relations'. On the other hand we need computer chips from China, and Australia seems to promise Taiwan they have their back it's not really US problem
