People like having their personal views vindicated and repeated.

IF you're right wing then you can't do that by looking at reality.

So you turn to talking heads who repeat what you want to hear and listen to them preach to you over and over. See Shapiro, Hannity, Carlson, O'Reilly etc.

It's not an exaggeration. People would rather stand in the rain and claim it's dry than admit it's raining when they don't want it to be.

Religion has a big part in that. People are taught from childhood that faith is more important than fact and that challenging a personal belief that means a lot to you is grotesquely wrong and offensive.

It's hard to grow out of that mindset unless you have a social circle who lead you away from it and support you.

Same reason 70 million Americans unironically support Donald Trump.
