if you're using them so your ISP doesn't send you a message about usage - fine

if you're using a VPN for security - they are pointless. all https sites are encrypted anyway, and if you have unlimited data you don't need to connect to wifi anyway, so you just have to worry about AT&T stealing your info. all websites have a way of getting your information other than IP address, so VPNs do not solve this problem.

if you're using a VPN for privacy - this seems like "tinfoil hat" territory. worrying about something that doesn't need to be worried about. are you hiding something? if you're an honest and ethical person I feel like this shouldn't be a concern, but maybe I'm missing something

using a VPN for bypassing country restrictions - fine, but I can barely think of any examples where this would be useful. maybe for football access.

also, before someone says "you can make your own VPN for free/cheap". no, you can't. your own VPN isn't going to have access to 60+ countries. it will only have the IP address your ISP assigned to it. and if you're paying for IP addresses outside of your own ISP...uh...you might as well just get a VPN.
