Topic | How do you pronounce caramel? |
ChocoboMog123 01/15/22 8:10:01 PM #36: | I worked for Starbucks for a long time and would inadvertently pronounce it opposite of however it was said at me. Chocolate = choc'lit family = fam'ly camera = cam'ra different = dif'rin(t) (depends on positional context) favorite = fave'rit Caramel vs Car'ml (actually there's CARE-uh-mel and CAHR-uh-mel, too) is fairly regional. Here are some other regional differences: https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2013/06/pecan-caramel-crawfish-food-dialect-maps/276603/ I think that maps out of date, I would expect Car'ml to be fairly more mixed, especially in Florida and Texas. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Language_change https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elision (I know, it's not techically elision) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principle_of_least_effort --- "You're sorely underestimating the power of nostalgia goggles." - adjl http://www.smbc-comics.com/comics/20110218.gif ...
