The point of the one ring was that it could never be destroyed intentionally. Every mortal would eventually succumb to its will. The only way to destroy it would be through an accident, such as when Gollum bites frodos finger off and accidentally falls into the lava with the ring.

So no, Sam wouldve either also succumbed to the ring, or his love for Frodo would have prevented him from doing anything.
Sam did have full immunity to the ring similar to Tom Bomabidill and vegy should they ever put the ring.
