I like this idea. The only thing is Pym was the only one with technology that could access the quantum realm and he would never share it. They'd have to retcon his history a bit to have lost another team down there before losing Janet. There's room to fit that in, but it seems like it would've came up earlier if that's an option they were considering using.

It'd make sense though. Janet was altered by staying down there, so they could be too. Instead the cosmic radiation or whatever gave them powers before, now it's exposure to the quantum energies.

They could just say Reed stole it and didn't tell anyone he had it before losing himself and his entire team down there. The tech remains lost that way.
