Because petty criminal activity like that isn't isolated and if a few people get away with it it often causes a lot more to become emboldened to do the same and it ends up costing tens if not hundreds of thousands in the long run. Not liking criminals doing crime and not feeling awful when they do something bad and hurt themselves doesn't make me a sociopath.
