It's got a lame villain, a lame twist, a lame subplot with a random kid, and the final climactic battle was lame: nobody asked for a bunch of lame remote controlled iron man armors exploding in one hit.

Also its ending was lame, because it had no consequences at all. He self destructed all of his armors, got the arc reactor removed from his chest, and lost his mansion and/or home workshop... but then in Age of Ultron, he has a brand new, more advanced suit, he's got the Iron Legion, etc. as if none of that ever happened and none of those developments are ever mentioned again.

He had just rendered all of those suits obsolete.

Leaving around the old suits makes another Whiplash possible. Also the Armor Wars.
