The Wikipedia article has authors behind everything, you should be telling them that.

I looked at the source they cited, it's pay-walled. Then I look at the Wikipedia article on Japanese language and the amount of native speakers increases by 2 million. Since that list says it is based on Ethnologue, and that source is pay-walled they likely have some criterion that we aren't aware of. My guess is the amont of Chinese second-language speakers is also underestimated, though I doubt English isn't still the most spoken language.

I am just saying that list clearly has issues.
