More to the point

-Most anime are themselves spinoffs or adaptations to begin with
-Traditional manga/Otaku culture has involved writing a premise into the fucking ground so the author can make a successful living off it. These stories are typically entirely one person jobs, which discourages any kind of spin off work
-When a franchise becomes popular, it's usually better just to sell merch off of it while it's hot rather than try to keep it going in the incredibly competitive Otaku market
