When a technician did very sloppy work on the drive plate and it caused catastrophic system failure across the ship. This damage lead to a radiation leak. The space radiation caused a virus that killed all the other men on board. For some reason the virus didn't recognise you as a man. The ship is still badly damaged and the remaining all female crew are struggling to keep it from total destruction. They can keep life support functioning but not propulsion.
