Funny, because nobody I've seen who uses latinx (all of whom in my experience are themselves part of that community, and many of them not even from the mainland US) pushes it as a prescriptivist term they demand others use, but the people who cry that "They're telling us how to speak!" love telling others not to use the term. This. It was a LGBT Latino invention to degender the language. Liberals are just deferring to LGBT Latinos who think this is a sensitive compromise.
