giving everyone votes based on their stake means the resource you need to buy votes is much more liquid. the equivalent for PoW is buying expensive specalized hardware (very illiquid). I think if you had a PoS currency with a huge market cap, it would create really bad incentives.

a lot of people say PoS is protected against a 51% attack because you wouldn't want to destabilize the currency if you had a huge stake in it. i think this ignores a lot of more clever ways people could exploit having a large stake in PoS currencies. for example slowly introducing usurious mining fees to get transactions approved quickly, or shorting the currency and then using the shorted shares to deliberately destabilize it
