All the cats I've had (all tabbies) have had thinner fur around that area in the same way. I think that's normal? Might be more visible because of the contrast of pure black fur versus tabby pattern.

Edit: I'mma try to get a good picture of work cat sometime before the holiday. He's been choosing to sit on my lap lately which makes it hard to grab a picture. ><
