Jan 6th already happened, there's no taking that back.
True, it did happen. What exactly have been the far-reaching consequences? Did anything really come of it that sets it apart from every other protest we've had in the US over the past five or so years?

I acknowledge that Jan 6th was criminal behavior, that the people involved were in the wrong, and that legal consequences are justified...but I think the severity of it gets played up quite a bit by the opposition. Those who stoke the flames and keep the hostilities going never miss a chance to call it an "attempted coup," or an "overthrow of the government," when really it was a bunch of angry, rowdy assholes causing trouble in the capitol building for a couple of hours before fizzling out and going home.

There was no long-term plan, no actual 'coup' attempt. To call it a coup suggests that it had even the slightest chance of overthrowing the government, but it just...didn't. That was never going to happen, and most of the people who took part in it were just causing trouble for trouble's sake. Was it a riot? Yes. Was it illegal? Yes. Was it violent? Yes.

Was it "the darkest day in the history of our democracy?"

No. I don't think it was.
