TLDR World references are not analogous to development and are antiquated terms

Third world is an antiquated term anyway. Its meaning is more specifically referring to countries that were not aligned with the Western hegemony or the Eastetn Bloc in the Cold War.

In field the terms are least developed, developing, developed, and most developed.

You can reference the HDI index for scores in development. US is high on it. The issue with the US is the GINI coefficient which is broadly a measure of wealth disparities.
