Quite obviously a move aimed at minimizing public negative feedback for cooperate marketing in general.

No more news articles about "most disliked video on youtube" or "company's marketing video getting mass disliked".

Funnily enough, I think google's own video youtube rewind is included in that category (although they've gotten rid of it since it became blatantly obvious the rewind is now just fake advertisement for advertisers).

Besides, I thought uploaders had the option to disable ratings anyway.

They do, but you never want to disable the likes/dislikes or the comments unless you are getting mass negative feedback and want to hide it, because those systems count as engagement for the youtube algorithm, and everyone assumes if those systems are disabled by choice, it was because of mass negative feedback anyway, so the fact there is negative feedback isn't really being hidden.
