The Salvation Army is literally a religious cult. They refer to their ministers as "officers" who are assigned military-style ranks (Lieutenant, Captain, Major, etc) and the regular members as "soldiers", they wear uniforms with rank insignia, and until very recently, officers were only permitted to marry other officers. The creed of the Salvation Army, now known as the Soldier's Covenant, was formerly called the "Articles of War".
