I have a question about the old movie from the 30s
why does the girl just immediately die when she is thrown in the water. I think even if she couldnt swim she would you know splash around or try to paddle
but in that movie its just *ploop*
That's a great question, the answer is genuinely unpleasant to contemplate: Firstly, she does struggle. There's more splashing than can be accounted for by her simply hitting the water. She goes in face down, and it's very possible she reflexively gasps for air *after* going under. This would affect her buoyancy and presence of mind, making it difficult for her to surface, especially if she's not a good swimmer. She probably does continue to splash around, but a few feet under the water. Just because you can't see her struggling doesn't mean she isn't.
