At this point there are so many asterisks when it comes to professional critics even before we take any possible outside meddling into account. I know the real reason why Captain Marvel got her own movie before Black Widow did (because former Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter mandated every movie have a white male lead to attract audiences and Feige had to beg and plead just to get Captain Marvel greenlit, and Feige prioritized that and Black Panther because he personally wanted to see them filmed), but I can't help but wonder if maybe Captain Marvel was seen as being a more marketable character than Black Widow or Scarlet Witch.
