His parents lied about where he was so that there would be this big concentrated search effort to give him time to get away. Under that logic, it makes perfect sense for them to find something there right after the search had concluded because it keeps resources focused in on that area and not elsewhere.The only way it makes sense for the parents to suddenly find something now despite keeping his exact location secret the whole time is if they killed Brian and dumped the body and wanted to wait long enough for it to be decomposed enough that it would not be possible to tell her was murdered. Not that they would have been able to get away with this.
