Yes No Do you think Jyckell is a sell out for going to that homecoming game with the 2 boy kings? - Results (6 votes) Yes 33.33% (2 votes) 2 No 66.67% (4 votes) 4 After 2 female students were voted homecoming King and Queen at a NJ High School, the administration now responded by reopening the ballot to add 2 MALE KINGS that prompted fierce backlash and protests given male students were already on the ballot but it was a wide open field for any gender to win the king and queen roles!! 17 y/o Zoe Nelson and Jyckell Perez were named the homecoming kin gand queen at Passaic County Technical Institute by winning the votes but rather than letting 2 females hold the titles together, the admins expanded voting again to elect 2 male students as "kings"... The judgement call doesn't appear to reflect the needs of students who overwhelmingly opposed it and a thousand of them participated in a sit in protest The principal has since apologized insisting he didn't mean to offend or slight the winners Nelson purposely ran for homecoming king, not queen to break barriers and was thrilled when she won She said "I had been going through a lot of like online bullying and harassment so it was really hard for me. But when i won, i kind of felt like it all went away, it was all worth it" But when they won the top votes, the school then turned around to hold a MALE election with 2 males named as King since no male beat out Nelson. Perez asked "Why am i the only queen?. The administration said because you're special" They think they introduced 2 males because they were uncomfortable with a female homecoming king as Zoe's campaign was about breaking barriers and the admin took that and said in the spirit of breaking barrier and being more inclusive, they added 2 kings on the court. Soon students started a mass protest and principal Antonio Garcia apologized who said "I feel horrible, not just for Zoe but for everyone that feels slighted. That was not the intention of our decision. We wanted to include more students that were on the ballot for homecoming court. im sorry" He said he was proud of the protest and though they were appreciative of the apology it's not enough and they heard sorry so many times.
