It's probably more crushing to find out that you're nowhere near as good as you imagined you were; and that the only reason you imagined it was because for a while, you were a big fish in a small pond. Yeah, honestly, if you really feel outclassed by the people around you then you're probably right. Usually it's the guy that is overconfident about his ability that is wrong. It can be a good motivator though.
