From my experiences you are absolutely right. Lots of jobs I've had will be around the bush rather than be assertive when it comes to doing your job. That job I got fired from for saying "that's not my fucking job"? That lady didn't directly fire me for that reason, she gave me 3 random write ups for unrelated bullshit reasons like being 1 minute late from break.
