eastern asia? My ex gf from Korea spoke english fluently with an accent of course but enough to hold an intelligent conversation. There's a lot of international students at my university, and it's always the Japanese ones that don't speak a lick of English at all; it's like they're given the same tools as any other race to learn but they just suck. I'm a native Japanese speaker, and I always end up having to tutor them. It's become a side business tutoring English to international students so I do have some exposure (just not speaking out of my ass here).

One time I got so annoyed that I kind of spazzed out and told one of my friends off in Japanese. I basically told him, "hey man, everybody else is trying to learn. What's so difficult about making an effort to learn English? You're spending loads of money coming to America just to speak your native tongue? Come on dude."

My conclusion is that the English language is difficult for a native Japanese person to learn compared to other eastern asian races. Either that or the Japanese are just an overrated ethnicity with little intelligence when it comes to language learning. They may be good at everything else, but they're just weak in learning foreign languages? I think so, I'm ashamed to be part Japanese.
