Not every star is a classically handsome leading man. Andy Dufresne's story arch simply wasn't as interesting as Red's. We know for a fact that Andy escapes. The movie's poster and trailer spoil this, so there's no suspense regarding if he'll get out -- only drama leading up to when he'll get out. Even then, half of his story is told to us by Red. Red has been at Shawshank longer than Andy, we see the story unfold from his perspective, and there are doubts to his future. Is he institutionalized? Is he suicidal?
