I'm part production, part maintenance at a factory. None of the shifts are working this weekend so I had to go back in (I usually work 7am-3pm) to do end of the week preventative maintenance on one of our extruders in a department we call SOD (Small Order Department). It's way in the back of the building. The only entrance to the department is a big sliding door. It opens like a garage door but much faster. To open the door there are two black cords (one outside the department and one inside) hanging from the ceiling you pull on, then there's like a 10 second delay to allow forklifts and such to enter/exit before it automatically closes again. You have to give the cord a pretty sharp tug to operate it.
I went back in at 8pm. I'm the only person there, 2nd shift only worked a half shift and left at 7pm so all the lights are off. I turn only a few lights on, enough that I can see my way to back to SOD, and the radio. The lights for SOD are in the department, though. I'm walking back to SOD singing along with the radio when, and I'm still like 20 feet away from the pull cord, the door just opens. I've been doing this job for nearly 6 years and I've never seen or even heard of the door opening by itself. I froze for a second staring into the dark room before I 180'd and sprinted the fuck out of there back to my car.
So now I'm home, still freaked out, with all my lights on and just as I was pulling into my driveway I realized I left the lights and radio on at work and I'm still in my work clothes, but I ain't going back there until Monday when our shift starts. I called my boss but he didn't answer so I left him a voicemail to call me whenever. I've heard coworkers mention the SOD ghost before but I always assumed it was just an inside joke.

So, yeah, I think I finally encountered (sort of) a ghost and I ran like a bitch.
