Even if say only 500k players were actually competent itd still be tough for the average person. Gaming is extremely easy on the body so people can practice 100 hours a week for months or years on end. I read that pros acrually do play that much too. Gaming is prob one of the few hobbies that have people actually hitting that 10k hour mark of practice to become a master. This isnt possible in some of the more demanding hobbies due to wear and tear on the body. I do think winning olympic gold in even a niche sport is wayy more respectable than being the best in some popular game.
