A drunk woman bit a paramedic who was trying to help her - and tried to attack emergency workers with a toilet cistern lid.

Michelle Pollard appeared to be having a fit at the Centrepoint homeless centre in Manchester before she lashed out at emergency workers on July 4, 2019.

The 43-year-old then bit one of the paramedics on the thumb, piercing his latex glove and drawing blood.

Appearing at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court on Tuesday, Pollard was handed a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to assault.

Two paramedics were trying to treat Pollard in a toilet cubicle at the homeless hostel when she became aggressive, the court heard.

The defendant, who was intoxicated at the time, stood up on the toilet and attempted to attack the two emergency workers with the cistern lid.

As one paramedic stopped her using the porcelain lid as a weapon, his colleague tried telling Pollard to calm down.

"Michelle then bit me on my left thumb," the victim said in statement read out by prosecutor William Staunton.

She sounds like she needs help :(
